A Member of the Tsarskoe Selo Friends Society since 2007, Prince Mikhail Romanov-Ilyinsky (Michael Romanoff Ilyinsky; see photo above, click to enlarge) is now elected president of the Romanov Family Association. The Museum happily joins congratulations on this honour bestowed upon our Friend and extends hope for our further cooperation.
According to the Association’s president, their main activity is to strengthen the links between the family members, which include twenty-two members and six Honorary members living in Russia, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, England, and the U.S.A. His personal goal is to identify more opportunities for more members to travel to Russia, as well as to assist in facilitating such visits. Another activity is charity via a fund called The Romanov Fund for Russia.
A grandson of Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich Romanov (1891–1942), Michael Romanoff Ilyinsky personally donated to the Museum a number of rare artifacts like his grandfather’s belongings related to the history of the former imperial residence of Tsarskoe Selo. Thanks to his efforts, the Museum now holds Russia’s largest collection of Grand Duke Dmitri memorabilia.
Commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the House of Romanov in 2013, Michael handed over to the Museum the archive and belongings of members of the Romanov dynasty. The objects were on display at the exhibition The Romanovs: From Tsarskoe Selo to Cincinnati at the Catherine Palace.
