Genius sculptor and restorer dies at 83

Lilia M. Shvetskaya, a Master Sculptor whose talent greatly contributed to the restoration of the Tsarskoye Selo palaces and parks, died on January 6th, 2012.

Agate Rooms: 1st stage of restoration completed

Tsarina’s porcelain cat returns to palace

The porcelain figure of a cat licking its paw, presented to Tsarina Alexandra, Nicholas II’s spouse, in 1903 and then gone after 1917, was recently won at an auction by our museum.

Puppet Theater of Tsarevich Alexei

Tsarskoye Selo regains the late nineteenth-early twentieth century French puppet theater set of Tsarevich Alexei, which belonged to the Playroom of Tsar Nicholas II’s heir in the Alexander Palace until 1931.

Our auction win: Painting from Alexander Palace!

A lucky bidder at a recent Dorotheum auction in Vienna, Tsarskoye Selo has acquired for EUR 260,000 a painting commissioned by Emperor Nicholas I for the Alexander Palace in 1846.

Book taken in 1943 returns to Alexander Palace

A 1893 Russian edition of Don Quixote, possibly from Nicholas II’s library, returns to the Alexander Palace thanks to a Spaniard whose father salvaged the book in 1943 and dreamed of bringing it back since then.

Museum collection expanded

A year after Tsarskoye Selo celebrated its 300th birthday, our collection has included a 1910 greeting folder with a letter of congratulation from citizens of the nearby Pavlovsk town to their neighbours on the occasion of Tsarskoye Selo’s 200th anniversary.

Restoration of WWI Museum at Martial Chamber: Call for artifacts

Queen of Denmark's visit

Her Majesty Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark visited Tsarskoye Selo admiring the splendours of the Catherine Palace and the homy feeling of the Alexander Palace where her royal great-great-grandmother gave birth to Russia’s last tsar Nicholas II in 1868.

New exhibition open in Zubov Wing since Sep 3

September 3 to October 16, 2011 the Zubov Wing of the Catherine Palace houses an exhibition of Russian Imperial Works of Art from Sergei and Tatiana Podstanitsky Collection presenting 132 paintings, graphics and applied arts of the 18th-19th centuries.
