A boat trip on the Great Pond in the Catherine Park was always a favourite pastime with the residents of Tsarskoye Selo.

Nowadays too, it is possible to take a trip around the Great Pond in summer on a gondola – a traditional Venetian-style vessel, constructed in a St Petersburg boatyard in strict conformity with an Italian design – and relax in soft purple-trimmed armchairs while enjoying superb views of the park and pavilions from the water.

Carriage rides, or in winter Russian sleigh rides, are on offer from the Tsarskoye Selo Equestrian Complex located in the buildings of the former Imperial Farm, which has the country’s largest fleet of historical carriages (20) and sleighs (over 40). A particularly memorable experience is provided by a ride in the Glass Landau that was made in Germany and modelled on Emperor Nicholas II’s grand carriage.

Enjoy the unforgettable winter views of the Alexander Park while riding in a two-horse open four-seated sleigh. One ride lasts 5, 10 or 20 minutes and costs 100, 200 or 400 roubles per person accordingly (50, 100 or 200 roubles for children).
