Vasily Stasov

The Russian most eminent architect Vasily Stasov (1769–1848) is famed for his numerous Neoclassical creations in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and other places.

His commissions for Tsarskoye Selo include the cast-iron To-my-Dear-Comrades-in-Arms Gate, dedicated to Alexander I’s fellow-soldiers and the victory over Napoleon in 1812.

After the great fire of 1820, he was entrusted to remodel some interiors of the Catherine Palace: the State (Marble) Study of Emperor Alexander I, Bedchamber, Chinese Drawing-Room, Church Staircase, Church Anteroom, and others. Many of his works established standards for architects of Neoclassicism.
