The Tsarskoye Selo Tercentenary
The 300th Anniversary of Tsarskoye Selo, celebrated 24 June 2010, is an important date in Russia’s history which connects together the past, the present and the future of the town that for two centuries lived and developed as the imperial summer residence.
Today, the State Museum-Preserve Tsarskoye Selo is a city landmark and a world-renowned architectural and landscape-gardening monument of the 19th – early 20th centuries, put on the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and included in the State Code of especially valuable objects of cultural heritage of Russia
The jubilee year of 2010 was marked by many new exhibitions and the completion of restoration works at the Catherine Palace (facades, Church Wing, Arabesque Hall) and park pavilions (Hermitage, Concert Hall, Turkish Bath), at the Alexander Palace (facades and Suite of State Rooms), as well as the restoration of bridges in the Catherine and Alexander Parks (Large and Small Chinese Bridges).
The Tsarskoye Selo Tercentenary Program was finalized with financial support from the federal budget, the IBRD, sponsors, investors, and charity makers whose participation in the Society of Friends of Tsarskoye Selo greatly contributes to the realization of our new projects.
An anniversary always makes you look back. The 300th Anniversary of Tsarskoye Selo also makes us look into the future and envisage further development and continuous improvement of the Museum. | |
