We invite you to participate in the 20th Tsarskoye Selo Academic Conference
The Great War: the last years of the Empire
dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War
the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoye Selo, 24–26 November 2014
The year 1914 saw the beginning of one of the bloodiest and large-scale wars in the history of mankind. The First World War affected all layers of Russian society. It became a catalyst for powerful political processes that changed the lives and destinies of millions of people, and had a significant impact on Russian culture and art.
Our conference offers to consider various aspects of Russia’s and other countries’ political, economic and spiritual potentials before and during the war, as well as the war’s influence on the subsequent development of Russia and how the military events were reflected in the cultural life of the country .
We hope that the 20th Tsarskoye Selo Academic Conference will clarify views on the participation of Russia in the Great War and on the life of Russian society during this difficult historical period.
