We invite you to participate in the 21st Tsarskoye Selo Academic Conference:
The Heavenly Empire: the View from Europe
At the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoye Selo, November 30 - December 2, 2015.
The conference is dedicated to China, its culture and arts, and their adaptation to the Europeans. The look of European travelers and merchants on the mysterious country, notes of missionaries, books of European philosophers of the Enlightenment inspired by the magical power of Chinese sciences and works of Chinese masters gave a lot to the development of arts in the European countries. We would like to talk about chinoiserie style in architecture, Anglo-Chinese gardens and parks, as well as painting and decorative arts. All of these aspects of the relationship and mutual influence of China and Europe, East and West gives immense scope for research.
Traditionally, the conference will address issues relating to the period until 1917.
The Conference proceedings are to be published by the Conference opening.
